MOUNTAIN BIKE AFGHANISTAN
Bikes are beautiful. Without doubt, for those of us fortunate to pedal a bike, our favorite childhood memory is the day we could finally balance without anyone’s help. The joy and sense of freedom that the bike provides is simply irreplaceable.
Afghanistan is beautiful too. That, unfortunately, is not a well-known fact. Images of conflict and destitution that constantly flood the media have overshadowed Afghanistan’s spectacular landscape and enormous mountains. These mountains must transform to a playing ground that can offer joy, healing, and fulfillment to a nation drowned in conflicts for far too long.
Our mission at MTB Afghanistan is to empower Afghan youth with the joy of riding and competing on mountain bikes, as well as to connect people across borders and cultures through their shared love of the outdoors and the sport of biking.
AFGHANISTAN SCREAMS POTENTIAL
Afghanistan's 1st Ever Cross Country Race
Hindukush MTB Challenge
We are proud to take the first steps towards cultivating a culture of mountain bike racing in Afghanistan. On Sep 28, 2018 we hosted the first official cross country race in Bamiyan, sanctioned by Afghanistan National Cycling Federation. In this historic event, 50 riders participated from across the country. More impressively, twenty of these riders were Afghan women. We aim to bring it back this year, and turn it into an annual event.
An Olympic Dream
Mountain Bike Afghanistan founder, Farid Noori, is on a mission to become the first Afghan to race the Olympics in mountain biking. He discovered the sport while attending high school in the United States. Through his journey, he wants to inspire young Afghans to dream the same. With MTB Afghanistan, he is building a pipeline program to support Afghan cyclists.
